Kevin and Nancy from Two Wild Nomads enjoying a slow travel lifestyle together

Choosing a Different Life

This is where our story begins, not with a ticket but with a choice, a decision that became the start of our personal story of moving abroad.

We are Kevin and Nancy, two people who realised that life is not meant to be lived on autopilot. We did not just want to dream, we wanted to chase those dreams. Kevin is entrepreneurial, positive and adventurous. He loves freedom, enjoys planning ahead and strives to live life on his own terms. He carries one foot in reality and the other in the dream he is building, and in that balance he has become the soul of this story.

Nancy is the softer strength. She is entrepreneurial, intuitive and warm hearted. She seeks connection, creates with her hands and her heart and brings depth and warmth through the coaching sessions she gives at Lief en Co.

Together we blend head and heart, planning and spontaneity, structure and freedom. Our story is not just about traveling. It is about awakening. It is about letting go of what is expected so we can create space for what feels true. That is where our desire to live a life in freedom began.

Our life in the Netherlands

Before we moved to Spain and started building a new life there, we lived in The Hague. Kevin was born and raised in the city, while Nancy grew up in Wateringen, spent time in Leiden, studied in Amsterdam and eventually settled in The Hague. It is the place where we fell in love, where everything started, and where the walls eventually began to feel a little too close.

Why We Chose a Digital Nomad Life

We first lived in the city center of The Hague and later in Scheveningen. Life was good, yet for both of us there was a quiet feeling that something was missing. Nancy worked hard and built a beautiful career. Kevin took the step toward self employment. It was exciting and sometimes challenging, but it was necessary to feel truly free.

Even with all the comfort around us, we sensed from our very first date that the Netherlands would not be our final destination. We missed adventure, space and the freedom to live differently. The daily routine felt safe but suffocating, as if we were walking the same circle while the horizon kept calling us.

We tried to escape by traveling more often, yet every time we returned, we slipped back into the same rhythm. A rhythm that no longer felt like ours. Slowly it became clear why we would eventually move to Spain. It was time to listen to what our hearts had been saying for years.

Why Spain Became Our New Beginning

Our hearts were not in the cold and rainy Netherlands. We felt that the world had more to offer than rushing, full calendars and long to do lists. We longed for sunlight, open space and the freedom to shape our own days again.

Around us were expectations about careers, houses and the things people are expected to do at a certain age, but they no longer matched the life we wanted to live. We had love, stability, a beautiful home and enough income. What was missing was inner peace. We wanted a life where happiness is not tied to weekends or holidays, but to how you live on an ordinary day.

Spain invited us with its slow rhythm, its nature that encourages silence, and its people who choose living over planning. It felt like the right place to begin again and to discover what living in Spain could truly mean for us.

Once we finally made the decision to move, everything changed quickly. The months before leaving were filled with excitement, doubt and moments of pure joy. We left a lot behind, but in return we received something bigger, the opportunity to start again.

Our family and friends responded lovingly. They were not surprised. We had always been a little unconventional. There was laughter, there were tears, and there was celebration before we left. And then suddenly, it was time.

We remember the day of departure clearly. The car was packed. The keys were on the table. The silence in the house felt heavier than ever. We looked at each other, nervous but relieved, as if we were closing a chapter whose ending we already knew.

What followed was a drive full of emotion, exciting and liberating, chaotic and calming at the same time. It felt like a deep breath, as if we finally allowed ourselves to choose our own path.

Building a New Life in Southern Spain

We thought we were prepared, but living in Spain taught us more than we expected. Kevin continued his work remotely and Nancy started her own business. Slowly freedom took on a new shape.

Our days no longer began with a schedule. They started with a sunrise, silence and coffee. Life moved at a slower pace. There was space for nature, creativity and each other. We no longer had to run in order to live.

We learned that slowing down gives you more. An afternoon walk in the mountains can offer more peace than an entire weekend away. There was room to grow, to learn and to develop at our own rhythm.

We missed family and friends, but thanks to the digital world the connection stayed close. And while we built friendships in Spain, we realised that this was not the final chapter. It was the beginning of something larger.

The Creation of Two Wild Nomads

The idea for Two Wild Nomads emerged from that quiet space. We felt that the world was bigger than our Spanish hillside. By working hard, investing wisely and learning how to add more freedom to our days, we created the chance to live life differently. Not with luxury, but with intention and curiosity.

The moment Nancy shared the idea is one we will never forget. We do not have endless money, but we have enough to begin, enough to grow and enough to create a new way of working while we travel.

We want to live like adventurers, open, curious and honest. It felt like the next step in the journey that began when we left the Netherlands. Choosing freedom, even when the outcome is uncertain, became our way of living.

What’s Next for Two Wild Nomads

Two Wild Nomads is not a brand. It is a way of life. We want to inspire people to step away from fear and follow the path that feels right for them. Not by pretending everything is perfect, but by sharing the real story, the good moments and the difficult ones.

We share our experiences, including what it is like to travel with type one diabetes, because authenticity creates connection. And we want to show that the world, despite what the news sometimes suggests, is full of kindness, beauty and humanity.

This is the beginning of our story, the start of a journey that is not about distance but about meaning.

  1. This story really stayed with me. The way you describe choosing freedom not as an escape, but as an act of listening to yourselves, feels incredibly honest and grounding. It reminded me how easy it is to live on autopilot and how powerful it can be to pause and choose differently. Your balance of head and heart, structure and softness, makes this journey feel real and deeply human. Thank you for sharing this so openly. It’s inspiring in a quiet, meaningful way and it definitely made me reflect on my own definition of freedom.

    • Thank you so much for these kind and thoughtful words. It truly means a lot to us to hear that our story resonated with you and invited reflection. That is exactly why we share this journey so openly, not to have answers, but to create space for connection and honest conversations about freedom, choice and living with intention. We’re grateful you took the time to read and to share what it stirred in you.
